BirdieSense Accuracy & Validation

Last updated: October 3, 2026

BirdieSense combines vision-based launch monitoring, swing video and 3D movement analysis. This page explains the accuracy ranges currently reported in our FAQ, what those ranges mean, and the evidence needed to evaluate them.

Development testing, not independent certification

The ranges below are manufacturer-reported development-testing results under standard operating conditions. They are preliminary, not guaranteed tolerances for every shot, and should not be read as independently certified performance. More detailed final measurements will follow further testing.

Current reported accuracy ranges

Metric Reported development-test range How to interpret it
Carry distance Typically within approximately 3–5% of TrackMan A calculated result using measured ball speed, launch angle and club speed. This is a comparison with the reference device, not a guarantee of actual landing distance.
Club path Typically within approximately 1.0° Directly tracked through computer-vision keypoints on the clubhead. The public FAQ does not specify a reference instrument or statistical confidence level for this figure.
Face angle and face-to-path Typically approximately 1.0°–1.5° of directional variance Calculated from measured path, launch direction and initial trajectory. Derived results should be distinguished from directly observed measurements.
Spin rate Typically approximately 200–500 RPM Intended to help identify higher/lower spin profiles. This range is not a single-digit RPM precision claim.
Spin axis No numerical tolerance published in the current FAQ Intended to help identify draw/fade bias. The RPM range for spin rate is not an accuracy tolerance for spin axis.

Measured inputs and calculated outputs

A launch monitor can observe inputs and derive other results from them. BirdieSense's current FAQ describes club path as directly tracked through vision keypoints, and carry, face angle and face-to-path as calculated results. Those distinctions matter when comparing devices. A calculated output can be useful for practice without being a direct observation of the complete ball flight.

Camera technology and capture speed alone do not establish accuracy. Accuracy must be evaluated for each metric and setup, including whether a value was observed, calculated, estimated or unavailable.

What the current figures do not establish

The current public FAQ does not provide a shot-by-shot dataset, sample size, firmware build, full test setup, miss-detection rate, outlier policy or confidence intervals. Its ranges therefore do not establish how often a particular error threshold is met, or whether the same performance applies across all clubs, golfers, lighting conditions and indoor/outdoor setups.

Lighting, placement, visible ball flight, ball and club characteristics, and software version should be recorded in any comparison. Development units and future production units should also be identified separately.

How to assess a reproducible comparison

A useful independent comparison should identify both devices and their software versions, synchronize readings from the same shots, document placement and environmental conditions, and report every attempted shot. Missed readings, rejected shots and excluded outliers should remain visible with reasons.

Results should be separated by metric and club, with signed error, absolute error and error distributions rather than only a best shot or overall average. Raw paired readings, test footage and a clear distinction between measured and calculated values make results easier to check and reproduce. This is a framework for evaluating evidence, not a claim that the development tests already followed this complete protocol.

Independent hands-on evidence

An interview, specifications-based review or manufacturer demonstration is different from an independent paired-device test. The accuracy ranges on this page remain attributed to BirdieSense development testing; this page does not present an independently audited TrackMan or GCQuad comparison dataset.
