The practice problem

Andrew explains the gap between seeing what a swing should look like and feeling the movement during solo practice. He describes the work involved in matching recorded swing video to launch-monitor numbers.

The analysis shown or described

At 3:39–4:04, the demonstration describes a ten-shot pattern with an over-the-top path and pull-slice flight. The AI dialogue reports around 800 RPM of side spin and about 120 yards of seven-iron carry. These are figures spoken in this demonstration, not an independently verified spin or distance measurement. At 4:04–5:46, Andrew examines impact footage, body movement and a comparison with his personal reference swing.

The reported result and its limits

The demonstration produces an explanation and a suggested drill, followed by questions about path and face-to-path at 6:29–7:29. It does not publish a subsequent controlled improvement test or raw paired readings from a reference launch monitor.

Watch the evidence in context

The linked moments preserve the original demonstration context. They are not raw shot-data exports or independently audited comparison results. For current reported development ranges and their limitations, read BirdieSense Accuracy & Validation.

[0:00] I will need to record that again.

[0:21] Hi everyone, I'm Andrew Tricker, PGA Golf Coach.

[0:23] I see many amateur golfers on the driving range every day, practicing, hitting hundreds

[0:28] of balls.

[0:29] Many of them know what a good swing should look like, but they struggle to implement

[0:34] this into what a good swing should feel like.

[0:37] So why does this happen?

[0:39] Because golf is a difficult game.

[0:41] You cannot see your own movement.

[0:43] And even when you record the swing yourself, when you look back at the swing, it's very

[0:47] difficult to track minor changes in the swing and see if you're doing the correct movement

[0:52] while you're practicing.

[0:54] For the past 20 years, golf technology has been trying to solve this problem.

[0:57] We now have lots of launch monitor data, radar systems, high speed cameras, but ultimately,

[1:03] unless you understand the data, it does not tell you exactly why your shot went wrong.

[1:13] Traditionally a golf coach would have to record your swing, import the video, draw the lines,

[1:18] frame by frame, compare it to launch monitor data and figure out the right drill for you.

[1:23] Or you could do it by yourself.

[1:25] But either way, it's a difficult and tedious process for both you and the coach.

[1:31] But now, BirdieSense enters the game.

[1:33] It's a completely different approach.

[1:36] It is more than a launch monitor.

[1:37] It's an intelligent golf training system powered by AR and specialized cameras.

[1:42] Let's simplify the way you improve and make your practice more efficient.

[1:47] So what makes it different from the traditional solutions we've used in the past?

[1:52] Let's put it to the test and see.

[1:56] Let's start by hitting a normal shot and see exactly what it captures.

[2:14] Look at that.

[2:15] Everything is ready in under 10 seconds.

[2:17] From the time the clubface strikes the ball, BirdieSense traces your shot.

[2:22] Once the ball lands, the most important data appears on the screen.

[2:26] This data can be customized.

[2:28] If you need a more in-depth analysis, you can press the button on the bottom right-hand side of the screen.

[2:34] BirdieSense captures an enormous amount of data.

[2:36] It captures club data.

[2:38] It captures ball data.

[2:39] And it also captures your body movement data.

[2:42] If this is all that it did, it certainly would be a very capable launch monitor.

[2:47] During a practice session, it will work alongside you.

[2:52] If you hit a bad shot, it doesn't necessarily analyze every shot.

[2:56] It works alongside you over time and establishes a pattern for your movement.

[3:01] BirdieSense doesn't compare your swing to that of a PGA Tour player.

[3:05] It will take your data built up over time and compare current data to your historical data.

[3:12] This will help you improve your movement patterns and play within your physical characteristics of your own swing and body.

[3:23] To demonstrate this, I'm now going to hit a shot.

[3:39] That should be 10, I think.

[3:41] Across these 10 shots, your path was pretty consistently over the top.

[3:45] That's giving you a pull slice.

[3:46] Side spin around 800 revolutions per minute.

[3:50] With a 7 iron, you're only carrying about 120 yards.

[3:53] Wow, look at this.

[3:55] It immediately identified my movement pattern, ball flight, landing carry distances and high side spin numbers.

[4:04] Okay, so it doesn't just give you a 3D skeleton.

[4:06] It also gives you the moment of impact using high speed camera.

[4:10] BirdieSense can zoom in to the moment the club makes contact with the ball.

[4:15] The slow motion video provides undeniable evidence of your mistake.

[4:20] You can clearly see the out to in swing path with an open club face in this video.

[4:26] Okay, the underlying cause of this problem can be seen in the body motion.

[4:30] So what happens in this swing, which causes a massive out to in path?

[4:36] You swing to the top of the backswing.

[4:38] To start the downswing, the head and face go towards the ball,

[4:42] shifting the pressure onto your toes.

[4:45] This will cause you to throw the club out in front of you with your shoulder and your hands.

[4:49] And you will not be able to rotate your lower body at all.

[4:53] This is where BirdieSense is really powerful.

[4:56] It can help you identify the key frame where the pressure moves in your feet.

[5:01] And also if you record this from the incorrect position, you will not be able to see the swing error.

[5:08] Okay, take a look at this reference.

[5:10] When we move forwards, we don't have the face moving down towards the ball.

[5:15] We just keep the face in the same position.

[5:17] BirdieSense uses your best swing as a reference.

[5:20] You can always compare your current swings to your personal best, which will help you to improve quicker.

[5:27] Here's what I'm seeing in transition.

[5:29] Your pressure drifts too far into your toes, which pushes your pelvis toward the ball and steals space from your arms.

[5:35] From there, you start throwing it over the top, hips and shoulders opening early as the hands and club come from outside.

[5:41] That gives you an out to in path.

[5:43] The face is open to that path, but still pointing left of the target.

[5:46] So the ball starts left and curves right, classic pull slice.

[5:49] This is what excites me as a coach.

[5:51] Before we used to import the video, draw lines, different angles, compare the video to the launch monitor data.

[5:57] BirdieSense takes all this information and integrates it all into one device, making analysis so much easier.

[6:05] What is your best swing?

[6:11] Traditional launch monitors give you lots of data, which can be really overwhelming for any golfer.

[6:17] BirdieSense not only gives you data, but also gives you an explanation of the data in a simple, easy to understand format,

[6:24] which is really good for the new golfer and also for the more advanced player.

[6:29] BirdieSense has just given me a diagnosis of my swing.

[6:31] If there's anything that I don't understand, I can ask follow up questions.

[6:35] For example, hey birdie, why does out to in swing path cause a big slice?

[6:43] Outside in is correlated with a slice, but it's not the cause.

[6:47] What actually matters is club face angle and face to path.

[6:50] The face mostly sets where the ball starts and face to path creates the curve.

[6:55] So outside in doesn't have to mean a slice.

[6:57] Did you hear that BirdieSense didn't just give me a vague dismissive answer.

[7:01] It gave me an answer like it has an in depth knowledge of my swing.

[7:05] It uses the latest AI models and acts as an AI companion.

[7:09] Hey birdie, take a look at the form in this video.

[7:15] Birdie has suggested a drill for me to do to help me improve this motion.

[7:21] From a coaching perspective, drills are very important because they help you to develop the correct movement and change your current movement pattern.

[7:29] Drills will be recommended on your historical data and your own swing faults.

[7:42] Over the last 20 years, golf technology has got really good at measuring various data parameters.

[7:49] However, what we do with this data is very, very important.

[7:54] It's one thing having the data and another thing putting the data to use.

[7:59] Every single golfer is different and there's no real perfect golf swing.

[8:05] BirdieSense really helps identify club data, ball data, body movement data and develop a movement pattern.

[8:13] So you can identify your movement patterns and improve based on your body and your movement.

[8:19] For me as a coach, this is really, really important.

[8:22] It bridges the gap between your coaching session and solo practice on your own.

[8:27] It really is a tool which you can use to improve your swing and your body movement and really understand what it is that you're trying to do in the golf swing.
